Morning After Pill and Blood Clots

The so-called Morning-After Pill is a high dose of birth control pills. It’s to be taken after a sexual encounter if no form of contraception has been used. A couple of years ago, India made the Morning-After Pill available to teens over the counter, without a prescription. Sales exploded because young girls were taking the potent medication multiple times. Now studies show the number of blood clots in women has suddenly increased at the same time of this aggressive marketing of the pill. Blood clots are a known complication of the birth control pill. Even in the face of this alarming evidence, the maker of the morning-after pill in the US is asking the FDA to make it available over the counter to anyone without a prescription. Apparently profits trump safety for women.
